This just in, around noontime:
A federal judge has barred the Georgia secretary of state’s office from immediately certifying election results to allow more time to address problems with thousands of provisional ballots that voters were forced to cast last week.
On Tuesday morning, in a separate case, a federal judge ordered Gwinnett County to stop rejecting absentee ballots with missing or incorrect birth dates. The ruling by U.S. District Judge Leigh Martin May addresses concerns raised by voting rights advocates on behalf of several voters and by Carolyn Bourdeaux, the Democratic candidate fighting to force a runoff with Republican Rep. Rob Woodall in the state’s 7th Congressional District.
Tuesday is the deadline for Georgia’s 159 counties to certify their elections results, and the secretary of state had planned to certify those results Wednesday. But U.S. District Judge Amy Totenberg said late Monday that the secretary of state’s office could not certify results before Friday and that it had to “immediately establish and publicize on its website a secure and free-access hotline or website for provisional ballot voters to access to determine whether their provisional ballots were counted and, if not, the reason why.”
Meanwhile, Politico, no left-wing rag, reports, Republicans used redistricting to build a wall around the House. Trump just tore it down. All that efficient Republican gerrymandering worked efficiently for Democrats, as the whole country moved blue by several percentage points.
And this: How Democrats Won Over Older Voters—And Flipped the House: Democrats were victorious because they fought Republicans to a draw among Americans age 50 and up. How they did that is the story of the 2018 election.
While down in Florida, Rick Scott issues a furious, spittle flecked demand that the canvassers should stop counting ballots, including the military ballots sent in under deadlines determined by federal law.
The Associated Press has called Arizona for Sinema. Meanwhile, the New York Times tells us how the con artists are putting on one last shit show in the state of Florida:
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The concerted effort by Republicans in Washington and Florida to discredit the state’s recount as illegitimate and potentially rife with fraud reflects a cold political calculation: Treat the recount as the next phase of a campaign to secure the party’s majority and agenda in the Senate. …
But the Republicans’ posture on the recount — especially the party’s claims of fraud and cover-up and President Trump’s latest assertion on Monday of forgery, all presented without evidence — has been deeply divisive and even drew a stern rebuke Monday from the chief state judge in Broward County, Fla., Jack Tuter. He urged lawyers involved in the battle over the recount to “ramp down the rhetoric” and take any accusations of electoral fraud to the police.
The Republicans’ strategy in Florida reflects their experience in the 2000 presidential recount in the state. Party strategists and lawyers say they prevailed largely because they approached it as they did the race itself, with legal, political and public relations components that allowed them to outmaneuver the Democrats, who were less strategic and consistent with their lawsuit targets and public remarks about the recount.
This time around, though, Democrats are holding little back.
Oooooookay … How’s your little shit show workin out for ya? Wink, wink.
Let’s take a look.
Ms. Don’t-talk-about-health-care-let’s-shit-in-our-pants-about-the-caravan just lost Arizona.
That was after Trump’s feces flinging rallies in Nevada and Colorado led to Democratic victories in those states.
The Upper Midwest is gone. They saw through your act.
The KGB congressman just crawled back into his hole. And the remaining California Republicans are becoming as scarce as unicorns.
Georgia is taking on a strong purple hue. In Georgia and throughout the country, the suburbs have rejected you. The sixth district of Georgia, which previously gave its love to world-historical genius Newt Gingrich, will now be represented by an African-American gun control advocate. And the Democrat is leading in the seventh district of Georgia.
And you think the problem with your shit show is that you didn’t throw enough shit at the wall. You want to have one last go with the transparent lies and nonsense in the state of Florida.
You think the problem with the investment you made in your failed venture is that you didn’t invest enough money in it.
TALLAHASSEE — Gov. Rick Scott asked state law enforcement to investigate Broward County election officials because of potential “rampant [voter] fraud,” even though monitors from his own administration say they have seen none in that county.
“Our staff has seen no evidence of criminal activity at this time,” Department of State spokeswoman Sarah Revell wrote in an email on Saturday. Scott is the state’s current governor and the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate with a narrow lead over incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.)
That assessment, which was first reported by the Miami Herald, jives with that given by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, which said Friday it has also seen no allegations of fraud.
