I had a conversation some while back with a Buddhist priest. “You know,” my acquaintance wryly observed, “I get a big chuckle–a really big belly langh–when I hear people talk about protecting future generations.”
“Because,” he continued, “you know who future generations are?”
“Future generations–they’re us.”
An informant who wishes to remain anonymous has called my attention to this article, which sounds like a joke, but apparently is not. (And when we all die from the effects of climate change, the joke will be on us, won’t it?)
The article explains:
- A worm-like creature that can’t see has been named after President Donald Trump.
- The limbless amphibian has been named “Dermophis donaldtrumpi.”
- The creature has a habit of burying its head in the sand in a way that was reminiscent of Trump’s attitude to climate change, the company said.
- Trump has repeatedly dismissed the effects of climate change, even contradicting the findings of its own administration.
