The Grand Princess can accommodate up to 1,100 crew members. They are mostly young people from Indonesia or the Philippines. I don’t know how many crew are on her now, as she prepares to dock tomorrow at Oakland, California.
Apparently, when she pulls into the dock, the hundreds of passengers will be parceled out to several locations in the United States, and some non-U.S. citizens will fly directly to their home countries. Or, at least, that is the plan—or perhaps we should say, that is something that bears some resemblance to a plan.
But the crew will not be allowed to disembark in California. The ship will pull away from the dock once all the passengers are off, and the Grand Princess. with its hundreds of crew members, will just sail around in circles waiting until someone, somewhere, lets them land.
