As you may have heard, the Very Reverend Franklin Graham declared June 2 a “SPECIAL Day of Prayer for the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, that God would protect, strengthen, embolden, and direct him.” According to the Very Reverend Graham, the stakes are enormous:
President Trump’s enemies continue to try everything to destroy him, his family, and the presidency. In the history of our country, no president has been attacked as he has. I believe the only hope for him, and this nation, is God.
This is a critical time for America. We’re on the edge of a precipice. Time is short. We need to pray for God to intervene. We need to ask God to protect, strengthen, encourage, and guide the President.
We know that God hears and answers prayer. He can soften hearts and change minds. He is all-powerful, and He rules over the affairs of nations. The Bible instructs us to pray for those in authority, “that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior” (1 Timothy 2:2–3).
On June 2, we ask that pastors would lead their congregations in praying for the President, that Sunday schools and other groups would join together and pray, and that individuals and families across the country would have a special focus on praying for the President that day. …
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).
And so, members of the congregation, now that we have listened to the wonderful hymn copyrighted by the First Baptist Church of Dallas and sung by its choir, and have heard the Very Reverend Graham’s inspiring message, would you please join me in prayer:
O Lord our Father, our Republican leaders, idols of our hearts, go forth to battle—be Thou near them! With them, in spirit, and with our beloved leader, Donald Trump, whom Thou hast anointed King for Life, we also go forth from the sweet peace of our beloved firesides to smite the liberal foe. O Lord our God, help us to tear their minions to bloody shreds with our tweets; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their Democrat dead; help us to drown the thunder of the social media with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire. And as for the asylum seekers, whom Thou hast cursed, help us to steal their children and turn the grieving mothers and fathers out roofless to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winder, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it—for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Ho is the Source of Love, and Who is ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.
Thanks to Mark Twainfor his help in the composition of this patriotic prayer.
