Mene, Mene

Belshazzar’s feast, by Rembrandt

Perhaps the summit will be a nothingburger. We can all hope so. But though my crystal ball fails me, I have a sense of foreboding about the Helsinki meeting. It feels to me like Belshazzar’s feast. My sense is that big things are going to come from the meeting with Putin. And that they will be very bad for us, and, in the fullness of time, very bad for Donald J. Trump.

Mene, mene, tekel, upharsin.

But Hope Abides

Highly recommended: a thoughtful, fact filled piece published in the New York Times this evening: The Midwest eases its Trump swoon and flirts again with Democratic candidates.

The Administration is best encapsulated by the phrase malevolence tempered by incompetence. The Times article provides evidence that many who tolerated or even embraced the malevolence are now waking up to the incompetence.

About damn time.
